NATASHA M. SPENCER

Statement:
Grounded in a commitment to materiality and physical form and in attempt to penetrate the continuous stream of personal thoughts as we race from one destination to another, I have moved the process of art making out of the studio and into the public domain. Dependant on the armature of nature, these works are meant to provide a temporary moment of lyrical expression as we physically pass by them moving through time and space.

Process:
Flagging tape, synthetic or biodegradable, is wrapped around specific branches of selected trees creating a drawing/sculpture in an existing landscape.

Biography:
Natasha graduated with a BFA in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art. She received her MFA in Time Arts on a full scholarship from the Art Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally and has received numerous grants and fellowships. She currently works and resides in Chicago, IL.
