STEVE HOUGH

Statement:
Referencing the hyper-real conundrum of authentic-fakeness, and the paradox of pseudo-spiritual signifiers; I am blurring the saturated emptiness of blissful delusion with old-school reductivist parables of immateriality, homogeneity and absence. I am exploring how the referent-free glamour of commodified fantasies redefines and reclaims mythological models of transcendence from formalist metanarratives of Truth.

Process:
Subtle Ripples ranging in depth from 3mm to near flatness are sanded into the surface of a plastic panel and spray painted with color-shifting car-paint.

The lighting-media inserts consist of a pressure-formed Plexiglas 'bubble', containing cold-cathode lighting and two-way mirrors, producing the illusion of an endless, light-ringed hole.
